As a Stream

流, 2014

for String Quartet


3rd prize in New Generation 2014, performed by Romer String Quartet

Sometimes it is calm; sometimes it is swift.
It is formless and displaced.
It just roves wordlessly without knowing where to go.

I drew inspiration from the stream and composed this piece, which displays arbitrary changes in music phrase, timbre and texture and abrupt surges and settles in musical tension, for the sake of depicting unpredictable gestures of the stream.

它時而靜止，時而急湍；
它無相可追，無跡可尋；
只是默默地流浪著，卻不知那裡是最終的歸宿。

樂曲以此「流」為靈感，以隨機的樂句、音色、織體變化，以及音樂張力忽然的起伏，表現流水漂泊時令人無法捉摸的形態。
