Sound installation

Listen until you hear the sounds.Listen until the sounds blend into a chorus.
Listen until the chorus gets lost in the surroundings.
In everyday life, most of the sounds we hear involve motions or actions — for example, the noise of cars, birdsong, or sounds generated by human activities. Perhaps the only exception is sound emitted from speakers, where the source of sound remains stationary. Inspired by this intriguing auditory observation, I wanted to create a sound installation where the sound source moves constantly, so that the audience has to move to different positions to experience the work fully.
Eventually, I discovered the medium of mechanical sliders. They produce corresponding pitches and rhythms when they move at different speeds and frequencies. By programming four sliders to operate simultaneously, the sounds they generate blend together like a choir. The movement of the sliders, the movement of the audience, and the music-listening experience are all interconnected.
