Deer Enclosure
HUANG Wei(701-761)
I see no one in mountain deep,
But hear a voice in the ravine.
Through the dense wood the sunbeams peep,
And are reflected on mosses green.
The poem sets off the secluded mountain and the gloomy forest by contrasts from the voice and peeping sunbeams, depicting the void and solitude without any rising tension. In the same way, the music refers to the structure and aesthetics of the poem, plainly revealing the atmosphere mentioned by the poet.
This piece is commissioned by The Greeners’ Sound for the World Youth & Children’s Choir Festival 2015, Category C - Contemporary Music.
